Lunch & Learn:

Schöck’s Structural

Thermal Breaks

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. EDT

6 Antares Dr Ottawa, ON K2E 8A9

As a part of Taplen’s ongoing mandate to introduce new and innovative construction products and techniques to the Ontario construction community, we are proud to invite you to our upcoming lunch & learn session. In this next monthly session, attendees will be introduced to Schöck, Structural Thermal Breaks for Balconies, Canopies and Beams.

Balconies and other cantilever construction elements, which project through the building envelope break the insulation layer and create thermal bridges. Incorporating a thermal break within structural elements significantly improves the thermal performance of building envelopes.

This course discusses solutions to separate the external components from the building envelope, minimizing thermal bridging, energy loss and moisture issues.

Attendees learn to save significant time and resources through off-the-shelf thermal break innovations. Structural design components for balconies provide a load-bearing insulation element, ensure fatigue-proof construction, and allow freedom of design.

This course presents strategies for creating a high performance building envelope with thermal breaks, which contributes to attaining LEED certification for your projects.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify thermal bridge problems such as energy loss and mold growth in design stages
  • Compare advantages vs. disadvantages of thermal break solutions
  • Integrate thermal break technology to use energy sensibly, and create buildings that are comfortable
  • Assess how thermal break elements fit into LEED certification
  • Site reference projects where thermal break technology has been utilized
