Fred G. Barrett Arena Addition & Renovations

Location: 3280 Leitrim Road, Ottawa, Ontario

Completed: November 2003

Value:  $3,885,000

Area: 13,716 sq. ft.

This project involved the construction of a new American sized ice surface  with seating for approximately 200 people.

This Olympic-sized rink had 6 miles of lines for the heating system. These are underneath the 13 miles of cooling system lines—vital for an optimally maintained year-round rink. The project included:

  • A new American sized ice surface and bleachers and dasherboards.
  • New large, front lobby and public washrooms.
  • New zamboni room.
  • Renovations to existing canteen.
  • New player’s change rooms were constructed between the two buildings.
  • Ice plant for the building was replaced with a new ice plant.
  • Sprinklers and fire separations provided between existing and new areas.
  • Structure is a combination of a pre-engineered building and conventional steel with low E ceiling.

The existing arena remained in operation during construction and safe egress maintained from the existing arena, and phased work and hoarding was required to separate the construction site from the occupied facility, to keep occupants safe from construction activity.

We are experienced in the installation of a heating and cooling system for specialized spaces such as greenhouses or ice rinks where management of the temperature is critical.
