Ecole Elementaire Catholique D’Avalon
Expected Completion: July 2010
This project is situated in Ottawa's growing residential communities in the east end. The site is bordered by parkland, farm land, residential and shopping areas. The large site will be totally redeveloped for a new 55,500 sqft two storey elementary school. Included are parking, play grounds, daycare areas, and playing fields. The school is a steel frame with infill steel stud and drywall exterior walls, covered in a brick veneer. The gymnasium is concrete block construction. Foundations are concrete, and shear walls are constructed of both masonry and steel. The roof is a flat steel structure, with a modified bituminous roofing system.
The mechanical and electrical systems are designed to achieve energy efficiencies and environmental considerations have been built into the design of the school.
Due to poor soil conditions, the concrete grade beam foundations are supported by concrete filled steel pipe piles, driven into the rock.
